THE CHATEAU OF CIEURAC: classified Historic Monument

DESCRIPTION


A fine example of the first french Renaissance, the Chateau of Cieurac was built between 1480 and 1503 by the Family de Cardaillac. Raymond de Cardaillac and his Son Jacques, both Grand Chamberlain of the King, Governor and "sénéchal" of Quercy, built the actual chateau.



In a 20ha area, in the South of Cahors, overhung by its windmill, the whole estate stands in an enchanter landscape in the middle of the Parc Régional des Causses of Quercy. Fountains, formal garden or plantation of oaks, on the roofs of which truffles grow ...Everything is there to delight our senses, even balm-crickets!!

 

With its staircase carved on the riverside of the "flights of the steps" (unique in France), and with its structured door, made of walnut-tree wood and the remarkable "bar windows", the chateau can be considered as one of a jewel of the Renaissance style in the Midi-Pyrénées Region.


This home, in which a wide collection of furniture dating from the 15th up to the 17th centuries, recreates the period life-style in the chateau with accuracy and authenticity.
Splendid tapestry works combined with old-master paintings illustrate the art of living in those days.

 

Also classified, the windmill, built in 1670, has not been used since 1936. However, today the operating mechanism is still in perfect working condition.
